Options for Living - Respite Care

Caring for someone 24 hours a day is not good for anyone. Respite care can provide some much needed time for you to rest, deal with other issues in your life, or just get some much needed mental space.

  1. Local services Check with your local council to see what services are available in your area.
  2. Local clubs Being social members of local bowls clubs often provide safe outings where you can get a meal and mix with others who understand your situation.
  3. Other family members. If one of you has taken on the task of looking after an aging parents, other siblings can help by providing "babysitting" services in their homes or yours.

It's not that different to childcare really - yet new parents often get and accept help more readily. Be creative, you'll be a better carer if you have adequate time for yourself. Want to talk about it? Check our forum for views on different options and what people have found works for them.
