Getting Older - Local Services

Whether we like it or not, getting older brings extra challenges but with a bit of imagination, planning and flexibility, you can carry on getting the best out of life for as long as possible.

Exercise is very important to maintain health, bone density and agility as you get older. Many gyms and pools cater for a wide range of ages, some even have special sessions or venues for those who are not longer twenty

Local councils often run services to increase your mobility and social life including community bus and taxi services, library activities, respite care etc. Check your local council website and council offices.

You'll also find local clubs - the bowls club, RSL etc have social membership and provide a place for good, cheap meals, familiar faces and the opportunity to meet and make friends. Many clubs even have a bus which will pick you up and take you home.

Volunteer groups don't just provide services for the elderly. Many volunteers are retired themselves. Volunteering provides a place where you can use your skills and help others.

You'll find support organisations a good source of information and they often run information talks.

See BCL.com.au for local support groups, community groups and more:

BCL.com.au lists not-for profit support groups and other organisations free. Please use this online form to submit your site.
